RCDS is committed to raising socially-aware and compassionate citizens.
Our Service Learning Program is an integral part of the educational experience providing the RCDS community with opportunities to serve others through meaningful, hands-on activities. As part of this ongoing effort, RCDS students regularly participate in activities that support local programs, such as the CROP Walk for Hunger, Meals on Wheels, SPCA, Holiday Express, Lunch Break, and Scarves for Soldiers.

The Service Learning Elective for Upper School students provides opportunities to recognize the needs of others, problem solve solutions and share a positive moment with someone in need. Two or three times each month students taking the elective visit The Atrium, an assisted living facility; The Harbor School, a school for special needs students; and our Pre-K/nursery program on campus.

As an extension of our student volunteer activities, many young RCDS alumni return to our campus each summer to volunteer with the Horizons Student Enrichment Program. Meanwhile, the RCDS Parent Council continues to provide additional opportunities throughout the school year for its community to give back.

“Service opportunities make you realize you can be part of something bigger. The RCDS Service Learning Program allows us to volunteer for a wide variety of organizations. Whether it be sharing a joyful moment or providing food for the hungry, helping people in need or animals that need rescuing, we bond together for a good cause. It’s pretty awesome."
