Winter, 2020 After-School Enrichment
Begins on Monday, January 13

Beginning, Monday, January 13, RCDS will be offering our winter session of after-school enrichment programs. Registration is limited and these classes are open to RCDS students and students from neighboring schools in our community. Classes will take place at RCDS, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for 8 weeks and will be taught by RCDS faculty and guest instructors*.

 RCDS WINTER ENRICHMENT

MONDAY

Kinder Bots Robotics & Coding - B-2nd Grade

Children will begin to explore the world of robotics as they build simple models that teach the fundamentals of robotic design and coding. Whether learning about sensors while building drills and magic wands, or discovering ways that gears and pulleys create movement while building helicopters and robotic dogs, your child is sure to have an amazing time bringing their creations to life. Children love robots and this class allows them to build, program, and make the bots themselves!

Chess - 1st-4th Grade

Novice to experienced chess players are welcome! Targeted skills include setting up the chess board, learning to move the pieces, discovering the basic rules, studying basic strategies and practicing playing lots of games.

Minecraft - 1st-4th Grade CLASS FULL!

The Education version of Minecraft is a fun way for students to explore, build and interact in the same world as their peers. Students will work together digging (mining) and building (crafting) a virtual world. All ability levels are welcome.

Beginner Hand Embroidery  - 4th-8th Grade

Learn the art of hand embroidery! You will begin by learning basic stitches like the back stitch, running stitch, split stitch, and French knot. Then you'll put your new skills to use designing and embroidering your own adhesive patches to jazz up backpacks, notebooks, hats, denim jackets, and so much more! A $10 materials fee will cover all necessary supplies.

TUESDAY

Paper Mache - B-2nd Grade

Have fun creating your own woodland creature! Students will observe, draw, and sculpt a woodland creature using paper mache, paint, and collage materials.

Play With Science  - 5th-8th Grade

Play with some of the most astonishing rules of our universe making fiery explosions, operating a giant potato launcher, seeing real subatomic particles in motion, blasting-off a model rocket, building a solar panel system, sending a camera to space, or perhaps an idea of your own!

Making Murals - 3rd-5th Grade CLASS FULL!

Be a part of a team effort collaborating at every step to choose an image, plan, design, and paint a large mural on canvas focusing on the stages of painting-- sketch, outlines, colors, and how to enhance effects.

THURSDAY

Full STEAM Ahead  B-2nd Grade CLASS FULL!

In this interactive hour students will use Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math as they imagine, plan, design and create constructions and use design thinking to solve problems.

Guitar  - 5th-8th Grade

Have fun during this hour of making music learning the basics of guitar playing including open position notes, basic open position chords, strumming patterns, tuning by ear, barre chords, and pentatonic scales. All levels are welcome!!

Creative Coding - 2nd -4th Grade

Build your coding skills and learn the process for building your own apps. Using  block coding apps, robots, and Apple’s Swift coding language, students will master the basics of coding and learn the process for creating apps.  Focus is on the use of fun apps,  interactive games and Design Thinking. No experience necessary, but all levels of coding experience are welcome!

RCDS CO-ED Winter Baseball Clinic

$750 per 8 week session (2x’s per week) 

Sharpen those skills and get ready for baseball season during this 8 week clinic.  Participants will practice hitting, fielding, throwing and base running.  All levels are welcome. 

Ages 8-10 - Monday/Wednesday  - 5:30-7:00 pm 

Ages 5-7 -Tuesday/Thursday - 5:30-7:00  pm

Max # of Students: 10
