Head of Upper School

The Head of the Upper School reports to the Head of School and is charged with the comprehensive responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty in grades 5 through 8. Their specific responsibilities include the following:
- To maintain consistency between the school's mission statement and all activities of the Upper School division.
- To act as the educational leader of the school division, responsible for its day-to-day operation and to direct the activities of the members of the school instructional staff.
- To function as the chief articulator of the Upper School division's programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles.
- To observe, supervise, and help evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; to supervise the teaching process; and to review, evaluate, and revise, as necessary, the academic program.
- To provide an orderly, controlled environment in which learning can take place and a school climate which is supportive and which reflects high morale.
- To be aware of the educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of the members of the school community and to develop plans for meeting these needs.
- To make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty, and to direct the hiring process for the Upper School.
- To establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers.
- To conduct regular meetings with faculty which will deal both with routine school matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern.
- To establish relationships with our parent body and maintain the partnership between the school and its parents.
- To assist in the planning and the presentation of school assemblies and programs, to assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events, and to keep the entire school community informed of various school programs and activities.
- To provide for the academic guidance of students, to maintain complete academic records on all students, and to oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
- To be a visible presence in all areas of the school, to work toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise, and to keep the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school.
- To prepare a master school class schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
- To serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.
- To assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment. To participate in admissions events at the request of the Director of Advancement.
- To set and align annual goals with ongoing professional development for self and faculty members.
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

The Rumson Country Day School is seeking a part-time afternoon Security Officer. The Rumson Country Day School’s Department of Safety and Security’s mission is to provide highly efficient and effective emergency and operation plans, while ensuring the well-being of the students, guests, faculty and staff. If necessary, make split second decisions, concerning every aspect of protecting those at the RCDS.
Requirements
Prior Law Enforcement experience is required.
After School Security Officer Duties and Responsibilities
• Make decisions in emergency situations including but not limited to first aid, fire, lock downs, and evacuations.
• Manage the security desk.
• Control access to the building and visitor screening.
• Assist with rolling dismissal.
• Maintain a presence in and around the security lobby and Riker Hall.
• Maintain visual watch on all cameras around the building via cctv.
• Provide access to parents/guardians entering building as needed.
• Secure building after all students and teachers have left for the day.
• You must adapt easily to different environments.
• You must have a confident personality and enjoy interacting with others.
• You must have excellent communication skills.
• You must work well with other members of the building such as parents and students.
• You must work well under little direct management.
• You are reliable, punctual, and have superb attendance.
Schedule
• Monday – Friday 2:00pm to 6:00pm (20 hours)
• Opportunity for extra hours for after school sports, activities and weekend events

Full-Time Custodial Staff Member
Job Title: Full-Time Custodial Staff Member
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Plant Superintendent
Classification: Non-exempt; 12-month employee
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assure that the building is clean, safe and ready for the day. (i.e. vacuuming and sweeping hallways and classrooms, cleaning bathrooms, mopping floors, washing windows, taking out the trash, etc.).
• Must be able to preform basic maintenance and repairs (i.e. changing lights, changing filters, fixing door handles, loose railings if needed, painting, etc.).
• Must be able to work well with co-workers to complete the tasks at hand.
• During winter months: snow removal from sidewalks and entrances using a shovel or snow blower.
• Work with faculty and staff for what they might need (i.e. fixing desks giving them supplies, moving tables, etc.).
• Must be willing to work overtime during school-sanctioned events (i.e. rummage sale, gator bash, book fair, dances, etc. This would include but not limited to moving tables, running wire, moving and carrying boxes if needed taking out the trash, and setting up each event, etc.).
• Assure that the physical property is taken care of (i.e. cutting grass, weeding, trimming hedges, spreading mulch when needed, lining fields for games among other basic landscaping duties).
• The maintenance staff has two shifts, 7am-4pm, and 1pm-10pm.
• Other duties as required from the position.

The Rumson Country Day School is seeking an assistant teacher of Early Childhood Education. In addition to relevant education and experience, this teaching assistant must evince a love of working with our youngest learners. Teaching Assistants perform many leadership, organizational and classroom management tasks to support both Teachers and students. A focus on child development, social/emotional growth and play based learning are equally important with a focus on supporting the cultivation of a safe and welcoming learning environment.

The Rumson Country Day School Lower School teachers have an important role as creators of a
strong foundation for a child’s formalized educational journey. Warmth, energy, enthusiasm,
perseverance, and a love of learning are important qualities of an RCDS teacher.
Lower School teachers work closely with colleagues to create, plan, enact, and assess
meaningful, rich, and active instruction utilizing innovative learning resources that foster child
development and love of exploration. They have an in-depth knowledge of pedagogical
education with a focus on cultivating a safe and welcoming learning environment. Teachers
know all students well enough to implement differentiated curriculum to ensure every one
continuously learns and grows. They establish positive relationships with parents and maintain
regular communication regarding curriculum and student progress.
