The Blake Family

Edgar B. Blake came to Rumson in 1926 to help his friend and fellow Dartmouth alumnus, Harold Clark, to establish our fledgling school.  Blake, his wife, and three sons developed a unique and very special relationship with our school (as you will read below), a relationship that continues to the present day.

 “Where Are They Now?”

We know faculty and staff have the greatest impact on our students and create lasting memories for alumni well past their RCDS years.  Here, we highlight a former RCDS staff member who touched the lives of thousands of boys and girls:

Mrs. Linda Feeny

When did you work at The Rumson Country Day School and what was your job?

I worked at RCDS from Fall of 1975 through the spring of 2008 as the head cook in the RCDS kitchen.

What was your favorite part of the job?

Honestly, I loved coming in to work every day.  I loved working with the staff and spending time with the children every day.

What do you miss most about RCDS?

I miss the kids.  Seeing so many young people with happy faces – and hearty appetites! – made me very happy.  RCDS is a special place and it was a special thing for me to experience all those happy days.  Not many people have the opportunity to have such an enjoyable job.

What was your favorite recipe?

Tuna noodle casserole, of course!  Not many people know my few secrets with the recipe, but in addition to the tuna, the noodles and the mayo, I would add celery ground so small that the children wouldn’t know they were eating a vegetable!  I also added a little bit of milk, which is a surprise to most, and onion powder for flavoring – again, so the students didn’t know they were eating onion.

What have you been doing since leaving RCDS?

Many of our families know me as the “key lady” at the Sea Bright Beach Club during the summers.  I also teach knitting to senior citizens in Fair Haven and even taught an A.S.A.P. class in knitting for Parent Council this past spring!  I keep plenty busy with all of my grandchildren and I love to travel.  Right now, I am looking forward to a big trip to Disney this summer with my whole family.
