The RCDS physical education and athletic programs are a vital part of our curriculum.  Led by a strong team of well-educated and experienced teachers and coaches, these programs help our students to pursue many interests and develop as young athletes and team players.

Formal phys. ed. instruction begins in Pre-Kindergarten, with two classes each week.  All B-8 students have gym classes four or five days a week.  The program teaches physical fitness and athletic skills, self-discipline, and teamwork, and, with four teachers working with each grade level, classes are well-managed and safe.  There are many opportunities to enjoy something new; by using visiting instructors, our program offers an ever-expanding variety of age-appropriate activities.

Our after-school sports program begins in fifth grade.  Although the program is optional, more than 80% of our students take part -- we field more than ten teams each year!  Boys may choose between football and soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and baseball and lacrosse in the spring.  Girls may choose between field hockey and soccer, basketball, and softball and lacrosse.   Additionally, some golf, tennis, and track and field are added in the spring.  In all of these sports, a no-cut policy allows young athletes of all abilities to participate.
