Grades Beginners Through Four: BOYS
Boys are required to arrive at School each day in uniform clothing and to leave in the same fashion.
1. The uniform for boys in Beginners through grade 2 is uniform shorts or uniform slacks, uniform polo shirts or uniform turtlenecks, and socks (at least 3 inches above the anklebone). A uniform sweater (cardigan, pullover, or vest) may be worn. A regular leather dress shoe is required. No boots, sneakers or athletic look shoes are permitted. Dress shirts, ties, belts, and jackets are not required for boys in B-2.
2. The RCDS school uniform for boys in grades 3-4 consists of a uniform blazer and/or uniform cardigan, pullover, or sweater vest, uniform button down dress shirt – long or short sleeve, and neatly pressed uniform slacks, a tie, belt, and socks that are at least 3 inches above the anklebone. A regular leather dress shoe is required. No boots, sneakers or athletic look shoes are permitted. (Boys may choose their own ties, belts, and socks, as the uniform company does not offer them.)
3. Boys must wear their school uniforms, including blazers and/or sweaters (uniform cardigan, pullover, or vest) for grades 3-4. Before October 1 and after May 1, “warm weather attire” (A polo shirt for grades 3-4 instead of the dress shirt and tie – polo shirts need not be tucked in as long as the shirt is not oversized and sloppy in appearance.) will be permitted if announced by the Headmaster.
4. A regular leather dress shoe is required. No boots, sneakers, or other athletic look shoes are permitted.
5. No hats are permitted in the building.
Grades Beginners Through Four: GIRLS
Girls are required to arrive at School each day in uniform clothing and to leave in the same fashion.
The uniform for girls in Beginners through grade 4 consists of uniform polo shirts or uniform blouses, (short, long or ¾ sleeves). Uniform skirts, uniform jumpers, uniform skorts, or uniform slacks, and uniform ankle socks, knee socks or tights/hose. (Girls in grades Beginners through 2 may also wear uniform shorts.) Uniform pullover and cardigan sweaters may be worn.
1. Skirts and jumpers may be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
2. Polo shirts and the uniform blouse with ¾ sleeves need not be tucked in as long as the shirt is not oversized and sloppy in appearance.
3. All uniform sweaters must be worn with a uniform blouse or shirt, which must be tucked in.
4. Girls may choose to wear knee socks (navy, dark green, gray, or white) or white ankle socks that come at least 3 inches above the anklebone and may be purchased from the uniform company. They also have the option of wearing tights (navy, dark green, or white) or opaque stockings in same colors as knee socks.
5. Jewelry should be classic and without extensive ornamentation. Conservative earrings are allowed but only one earring in each ear lobe.
6. No hats, headscarves, or bandanas are permitted.
7. A traditional leather dress shoe is required. Shoes may be brown, black, or blue. Shoes should be no higher than the ankle. No boots, sneakers, or other athletic looking shoes are permitted.
8. Leggings, tights, knee-socks, or socks must be navy blue, forest green, white, gray or black. Socks may not have designs or logos. (Flesh-colored pantyhose are not allowed.)
Upper School - Grades 5-8
Girls are required to arrive in school each day in uniform clothing and to leave in the same fashion. The uniform for girls in grades 5-8 consists of polo shirts, turtlenecks, or blouses with skirts or slacks, and optional sweaters, pullover sweaters or sweater vests, all of which must be purchased from either Lands End or Corey Uniform company. Girls must also wear socks, leggings (with socks) or tights with shoes.
Boys are required to arrive in school each day in uniform clothing and to leave in the same fashion. The uniform for boys 5-8 consists of a jacket or sweater, dress shirt, and slacks – sweaters and dress shirts must be purchased from Lands End or Corey Uniform Company. In addition, boys must wear ties, belts, socks and shoes.
Socks & Shoes
A traditional leather dress shoe is required. Shoes may be brown, black, or blue. Shoes should be no higher than the ankle. No boots, sneakers, or other athletic looking shoes are permitted.
For girls, leggings, tights, knee-socks, or socks must be solid-colored navy blue, forest green, white, gray or black. (Flesh-colored pantyhose are not allowed.) Socks may not have designs or logos.
For boys, socks must be solid-colored navy blue, forest green, white, gray or black. Socks may not have designs or logos.
This means that laces, designs, “swooshes,” logos, etc. – on shoes and socks – must be the same color as the shoes/socks or absent. The rim around the soles of the shoes may be white (as many of the styles these days have this.)
Our aim is to create a dress code so simple that we do not have to discuss it or argue about it during the year. We hope that this will do the job. If you have questions or concerns, please email Mr. Kelly at rkelly@rcds.org.
Before October 1 and after May 1, boys may wear ‘warm weather attire’ which substitutes a polo shirt for a dress shirt, jacket and tie.
