Flu Notice Winter 2026

Flu Notice Winter 2026

Dear RCDS Parents,

Please know that we have seen recent cases of Influenza (Flu A and Flu B) among students at RCDS. We are sharing this information to help you monitor your child’s health and to prevent further spread of illness within our school community.

Common Symptoms:
•  Fever or chills
•  Cough
•  Sore throat
•  Runny or stuffy nose
•  Muscle or body aches
•  Fatigue
•  Headache
• Sometimes vomiting or diarrhea (more common in children)

If your child shows any of these symptoms, please keep them home and consult your healthcare provider as needed.

Treatment:
Most cases of Influenza can be managed at home with:
•  Plenty of rest
•  Increased fluids
•  Fever-reducing medication as advised by a healthcare provider
• In some cases, a doctor may prescribe antiviral medication, especially if your child is at higher risk or symptoms are severe.

Prevention:

• Keep sick children home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and are feeling well enough to participate in school activities.
•  Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after coughing, sneezing, or using the restroom.
•  Teach proper respiratory etiquette, such as covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the elbow, and disposing of tissues properly.
•  Avoid close contact with others who are sick whenever possible.
•  Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, such as doorknobs, phones, and toys.
•  Consider flu vaccination, which remains one of the most effective ways to prevent influenza and reduce the severity of illness.

Our school continues to follow recommended cleaning and health practices to help keep students and staff safe. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school community healthy. Stay well, and please reach out with any questions.

Warmly,
Colleen Delaney
School Nurse
