January 16 - March 13 (no class on 2/20)
Grades: 1st grade and above (students will be grouped by age and experience)

Studio Art: A diverse assortment of projects provided in the same room at the same time. You'll have a choice of one project that will take the entire session, or you can just join us for sketching sessions. There will be something set up to draw each week. Just bring your pencil and sketchbook. Our first session will be mostly discussion of the projects, how to approach them and making your choice of what to pursue. There is only one teacher: Mrs. La Du, so students will be in an independent study type of environment. Just like a real life artists' cooperative!

Each of the following projects will take the entire session of 7 weeks:

1. Chinese Star Book: A super beautiful folded creation that is also a uniquely shaped sketchbook or journal. Looks difficult, but with careful step by step instructions and patience, all ages can create one!
2. Design a fabric creature or doll from canvas or felt using either hand or machine sewing.
3. Stay in the Box: We're always asking you to think "out of the box" but this time I'll be asking you to think within the confines of a box. What will you say with the materials you use and the way you arrange them? Will it be a sort of self portrait, or a dazzling display of your multi media creativity?

Instructor: Ms. La Du
