Horizons
An outgrowth of the Rumson Country Day Community Service Program, Horizons has operated here on the campus of RCDS for the past fifteen years. Horizons is a six week academic, cultural and recreational summer enrichment program designed to encourage at-risk students from a diverse, low-income population to realize their full potential. Students are in grades K-8 and live primarily in the Red Bank, NJ area. The Horizons program consists of basic skill development in Math and Language Arts. Lessons are project oriented and include fun, hands-on assignments. Visiting Artists, computers, swimming and team sports round out a typical day at Horizons.
During the summer, many RCDS 8th grade students and alumni volunteer at Horizons, while year-round, several RCDS parents donate their time and talent planning for the summer and helping Horizons raise the money needed to operate the program.
Donations to Horizons are tax deductible to the full extent as allowed by law. Horizons is able to operate thanks to the generous support from Rumson Country Day School, community minded individuals, foundations, organizations and corporations. The cost of sending one child to Horizons for the summer is approximately $1,800. Horizons' goal is to offer 108 students the opportunity to attend Horizons during the summer of 2009.
