Diversity
Embracing Diversity at
The Rumson Country Day School
Our philosophy regarding diversity is drawn directly from our school's Mission Statement: "to provide students from all communities with a challenging academic experience in a supportive environment" and "to inspire our graduates to become life-long learners able to thrive, contribute, and excel in a demanding secondary school environment and in tomorrow's society."
Diversity at RCDS means more than just those multicultural differences of race, ethnicity, and national origin; it also includes socio-economic diversity, gender, and differences in learning style. We welcome different backgrounds and experiences. We encourage different voices and viewpoints.
Led by a Board-level Committee on Diversity, RCDS strives to increase diversity in its program and partnerships, faculty, and student body. This three-pronged effort includes community outreach and financial aid to bring a wider variety of families to our school, administrative searches for a more diverse faculty and staff, and a school-wide curriculum that helps to build cross-cultural understanding.
Our students also participate in a variety of community-based programs in which they work closely with children in more diverse settings. A series of donor-established endowment funds also support an exciting travel-study program for our faculty, providing summer grants that have allowed RCDS teachers to travel around the world and bring a more global perspective into their classrooms.
