After School Enrichment

Beginning Monday, September 25, RCDS will be offering our fall session of after-school enrichment programs in a variety of D.R.E.A.M. (Design, Robotics, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) subjects. Registration is limited and these classes are open to RCDS students and students from neighboring schools in our community. Classes will take place at RCDS 3:45 pm - 4:45 pm, Monday through Thursday and will be taught by RCDS faculty and guest instructors*.

Tuition for all Fall After-School Enrichment Courses will be $300.00 with the exception of the Stock Market Game, which is $350.00. Please see below for more specific details. Financial Aid is available for qualified applicants. Please direct questions to afterschool@rcds.org

*Please note all RCDS employees, staff, and guest instructors have completed a background check.

Art Sparks!

Mondays - 3:45 - 4:45 pm

The season of Fall brings about new colors, textures, smells, and a crisp breeze! Each class will bring us a different Fall favorite designed to Spark imagination! Activities will build upon lessons learned in the art studios, and will focus on fall themes to create original works of art. Students will have opportunities to explore with a variety of media, including paint, clay, pastels, and papier mache. Projects will be tailored to the interests of the group,and will be inspired by nature, famous works of art, and children's literature.

Chess - Experienced

Grades: 1st grade and above (students will be leveled by age and experience level)

This Chess program is designed for experienced players and will evolve as the skill level of the players evolves. As with beginner’s chess, an emphasis will be placed on building skills in chess through visualization and principles.

The Stock Market Game

Grades: 4-6

Through The Stock Market Game, your child will explore the fundamentals of personal finance and investing, while practicing content and skills in math, English Language Arts, economics, social studies, and other subjects. Working together to build and manage an investment portfolio in a real-world, dynamic marketplace, your child will analyze and make decisions, explore the consequences of their choices, and seek new ways to strategize for success.

Tech Tuesdays- Design 2D Video Games

Tuesdays - 3:45 - 4:45 pm
September 26 - November 28 (no class on 10/31 and 11/21)

Grades: 3 -8 (students will be grouped based on age and experience)

Do you want to make 2D video games for mobile devices, computers or the web to share with your friends? Come join Ms. Feldman on Tech Tuesdays and learn how to design your very own game. We will be using Stencyl, a block-based coding application inspired by the MIT Scratch project. No coding experience required.
*Limited to 12 students

Working With Textiles

No, just a wide variety of fabric, trimmings, buttons and bows.
Hand Sewing, Pom Poms, Tassels, Embroidery and an introduction to the Sewing Machine will be included in this course

Wired Wednesdays- Minecraft

Everyone loves Minecraft, but our students will be empowered to discover the underlying mechanics of the game in a collaborative environment.

The Pop Artists

Grades: 1st grade and above (students will be grouped by age and experience)

Andy Warhol, Jim Dine, Wayne Thiebaud and others captured the essence of everyday items, helping us to look past their usage and more deeply into how interesting the things we take for granted can be. A variety of media will be used to create our own Pop Art and artists' lives and contributions to Art History will be discussed.

Let's Keep a Sketchbook

Thursdays - 3:45 - 4:45 pm
October 5 - November 30

Grades: 1st grade and above (students will be grouped by age and experience level)

Why do artists always keep their sketchbooks handy? What do artists put in their sketchbooks? Can I make my own sketchbook? If I take my sketchbook on vacation, will it help me remember my fun times?

These and other questions will be answered in this course.

Sketchbooks provided.

A travel sketchbook will be made. We'll use a variety of media, and explore adding text to the visual images. No experience necessary just a great desire to draw and document their experiences. We'll use a variety of media.

Students must have a great desire to draw.
